It's a SHAME and an EMBARRASSMENT.
The Burke County School Board may have thought their troubles were over after getting rid of popular superintendent David Burleson. They were wrong.
Next week, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools -- known as SACS -- will pay a visit to the Burke County Board of Education. SACS determines if high school diplomas and certificates are legitimate. In a few days, their experts will examine how Burke's Board of Education governs.
We say "What a SHAME."
SACS has received numerous complaints from the community about how the Board has handled several issues. The association is convinced there is a problem. It says the Board of Education struggles to get the job done.
Now, because of the selfish politics of a few, students who have worked so hard to get the necessary credits to graduate will have to deal with the threat of having it all yanked away.
We also say "What an EMBARRASSMENT." Things must be pretty bad for SACS to be forced to spend time and money examining a Board of Education.
This visit will go down in the history of Burke County.
Board members, let this be a wake-up call. Stop letting personal agendas get in the way of students' education.
We say no more shame...and no more embarrassment...for the sake of the community and its students.
