Man dies after lawnmower flips into lake

CATAWBA COUNTY, NC (WBTV) - Emergency officials said that a 75 year-old man who was mowing a yard along the northern section of Lake Norman drowned after his lawnmower plunged into the water with him on it.

According to authorties, a man was mowing a yard Friday morning on a steep hill, alongside a tributary of the northern area of the lake and his wife saw the lawnmower flip over and land in the water.

The man then disappeared under the lawnmower under five feet of water.

The incident happened around 10:30 a.m. and the man was pulled from the water around 11 a.m.

The incident happened just off Kale Road in Catawba County near Lake Norman along a tributary beside a bridge.

The bridge alongside the lake was closed in that section while rescue crews were on the scene.

The man's lawnmower could be seen just below the water's surface from the air when Sky3 was over the area.
