VALDESE, NC (WBTV) - The Robinson Hosiery Mill has fallen on hard times. It's the same story that repeats itself hundreds of times in the textile industry; cheaper labor overseas makes it hard to compete.
But, last week the 55 year old company got word they've been awarded a government contract to make socks for the U.S. Military.
Company President Al Robinson says some workers cried when they got the news. The tears of joy came after the last two years have shown nothing but decline in business and a loss of jobs.
The company will soon start producing a black sock for soldiers to wear with any uniform. The product will require more workers to make and Robinson says they're already planning to re-hire.
