Startling new statistics about teen "sexting"

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - A new report shows a startling number of teenagers are sending sexually explicit text messages and their parents probably know nothing about it.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children conducted the survey.

It shows one in five teens have "sexted".

"Sexting" is sending or receiving nude pictures through a cell phone or over the internet.

According to the survey 80 percent of teens who "sexted" are under the age of 18.

11 percent of the teens say they sent the pictures to complete strangers.

And many teens say their parents have no idea.

40 percent say they don't tell adults about their online business.
