The Good News Is... CMS student regains eyesight

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - One  E.E. Waddell graduate is grateful he has regained his eyesight. Jose Gomez came to Charlotte - Mecklenburg school district about five years ago from Honduras. He could not speak English and had trouble seeing.

He was on the verge of becoming blind. His teacher stepped in got the student the surgery he needed to keep his vision.

"Every time I wake up," Graduate Jose Gomez said.  "I thank God for giving me the opportunity for me being here and having accomplished things I thought I would never accomplished."

Gomez received his high school diploma Monday.  And he made history. He is the first in his family to graduate from high school.  Gomez made a promise to his teacher to go to college.  He says until he gets more money, he will attend Central Piedmont Community College.
