MOORESVILLE, NC (WBTV) - Police continue to investigate the murder of a man whose body was found inside his Mooresville home last week.
Matthew Stewart, 31, was shot and killed inside his home in the Gabriel Estates subdivision.
Angela Stewart, who is called "Angel" by her friends, told police an intruder came into the couple's bedroom and started shooting without ever saying a word. She said she had no idea why anyone would target her family.
She escaped from the home holding their 2-year-old child and called police. She was shot in the arm. When cops arrived, they found Stewart dead inside the couple's home.
Matthew Stewart was a nurse at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center in Mooresville. Angela Stewart works as a nurse for Carolinas Medical Center. They had been married for 8 years.
On Friday, Mooresville Police Captain Phil Blocker told WBTV that detectives were still following leads.
He encouraged anyone with information about the murder to call the Mooresville Police or Crime stoppers.
Stewart's funeral was held at Central United Methodist Church in Mooresville on Saturday.
