Burke School Board meeting goes into closed session

MORGANTON, NC (WBTV) - There was still a faithful group of a couple of dozen still lingering inside of this school board meeting site in Morganton Monday night.

It remains to be seen if this will be a case of "fence mending" or will the divisions go even deeper.

Monday night's meeting was the first gathering since a judge ruled that David Burleson couldn't be fired as the superintendent and the real drama appears to be far from over.

Three lawsuits are still pending over the actions to dismiss him, and board chair Tracy Norman refused to weigh in on the legal matters at hand.

Superintendent David Burleson said despite and pending litigation, he has two goals.  First, he wants to focus on the needs of children, and secondly, he's working with a divided board.

The school board decided to go into closed session.

One board member hinted that part of the dialogue could be offering Burleson cash to leave.

Burleson is under contract until next spring.  No decision was made at the meeting.
