Please continue to donate to our local agencies that help those in need!"Speak Out" is an expression of opinion from the Editorial Board of WBTV, and is presented by General Manager, Nick Simonette.
The ripple effect from the United Way controversy continues to adversely affect many worthy agencies and programs.
With contributions way off, difficult decisions on "who gets the money" are being made.
Add in the down economy and people losing jobs...and the situation becomes even more serious.
Organizations trying to help the growing numbers of those "less fortunate" need your help and my help more than ever.
Perhaps you can't give as much as you did in the past.
That's O.K. Every dollar counts.
If you can't afford to give money, the gift of volunteering your time is just as valuable. Volunteers often say they "get back" much more than they "give."
Helping others is a wonderful way to boost your spirits and put things in perspective during troubled times.
Look around your neighborhood. There's probably an organization in need of your support close to home.
We've also included a link to local agencies on WBTV.com.
Hopefully, the economy is starting to rebound.
But for now, we've all got to pull together to help take care of our neighbors, and keep our community the kind of place we're proud to call home.
Because WBTV is "On Your Side," we encourage everyone to "Speak Out" - tell us what YOU think. SpeakOut@wbtv.com.
