CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are seeking clues in the drive-by shooting of a 24-year-old man.
Police say Derrick Dixon was shot to death in his car as he was driving down Sharon Amity road in East Charlotte on May 15, 2009.
The killer is still out there, and no witnesses have come forward.
"They did this in broad daylight, that's pretty bold," said homicide detective Miguel Santiago.
Santiago said officers have had difficulty tracking down witnesses.
"This is a very busy street and it's remarkable to me that no one saw or heard anything," said Santiago.
Derrick Dixon has a record. He was arrested earlier this year for possession of cocaine, but his mother said he wanted to put that behind him.
"He was so excited about looking forward to going to school," Dixon's mother, Gloria Pruitt.
Since his murder, officers have received a few tips on a car seen leaving the scene.
It's described as a green sedan with gold rims, but that's all the information they have. Not knowing who killed her son, is heartbreaking for Gloria Pruitt.
"My heart is ripped apart. I miss everything about him, everything," said Pruitt.
Police want to get the killer off the streets before they commit more crimes, but they need help from the public.
"It could happen in your neighborhood at anytime so we have to get these people off the streets," said Santiago.
