HICKORY, NC (WBTV) - There is no doubt, retail sales are in the dumps. People aren't spending their money on things they don't absolutely need.
The fumbling economy isn't keeping Julia Rush's gift shop from making money.
Rush has owned the crafty store that bears her name for 29 years.
Even she admits, things aren't as rosy as they were a few years ago.
Rush has stopped taking a full salary from the store so she can keep her promise to her 4 employees -- they won't lose their jobs.
While the books aren't in the best shape, the attitude in the store is nothing but happy.
Rush says she won't succumb to the negativity that comes with a recession. She laughs all the time.
She puts on sales with prices so low, she doesn't make a huge profit.
"It makes the customers so happy," Rush said.
