Speak Out: Waiting For Justice

Posted: Updated:

"Speak Out" is an expression of opinion from the Editorial Board of WBTV, and is presented by General Manager, Nick Simonette.

They say time heals all wounds. The Clark family says they've had time...now they need justice.

Earlier this week we sat down with Bob and Elona Clark.

Their son Sean, a Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer, was shot and killed *over two years ago*.

So was his partner, Officer Jeff Shelton.

The Clarks say they believe in the court system, but are frustrated with how long it takes Mecklenburg County to set a trial. As of now, no date is set.

Few cases are more high-profile than a double murder...of two officers...who died...protecting us.

Last time Mecklenburg County had a capital punishment case involving the death of two officers... this was back in the ‘90's... it took less than a year to go to trial.

We ask...Shouldn't  our  justice system be getting better not worse?

Officers Clark and Shelton left behind wives and families. They left behind a mourning department.  When a fellow badge falls, a deep blue line of brotherhood emerges.

Clark and Shelton also left behind a city of faithful citizens...

Who can ever forget these images? Thousands of people lining the streets for funeral processions.

Despite our differences at times, these deaths made *us* come together in a remarkably honorable way.

It has been two years, plus. To the prosecutors in charge: Please move forward. Get to trial.

Not just for the city and C-M-P-D...but for the families sitting around, consumed with when justice will be met.

Because WBTV is "On Your Side," we encourage everyone to "Speak Out" - tell us what YOU think. SpeakOut@wbtv.com
