Speak Out: Carbon Motors

"Speak Out" is an expression of opinion from the Editorial Board of WBTV, and is presented by General Manager, Nick Simonette.

Is this just another ploy to keep Charlotte smaller than Raleigh or truly an oversight by our newly elected Governor Beverly Perdue?

Recently a new automobile company, Carbon Motors announced a short list of five U-S states.

These states have been chosen as candidates for potential manufacturing headquarters of Carbon Motors. The company even said it was looking specifically at Charlotte.

Carbon Motors Corporation focuses on a highly specific mission: developing and manufacturing environmentally-safe law enforcement patrol vehicle. The vehicles are built specifically for Police purposes and provide a green way to fight crime.

The company says it'll bring in 10-thousand jobs! If 10,000 jobs sounds too good to be true, it might be for Charlotte.

The company requested of these five states  --Georgia, Indiana, Michigan, South Carolina and North Carolina -- a letter from the Governor confirming their state's interest.

North Carolina was the only state without a response.

When WBTV contacted the CEO of Carbon Motors, he said even a phone call would have sufficed.

The Governor's office had no comment about the matter. This is not the time to be silent.

All cities and states should seek every opportunity to prosper.

If you believe Charlotte needs Carbon Motors we encourage you to write to the company.
