There is new information tonight in the death of a 20-year-old UNC-Charlotte student.

Police now say Ira Yarmolenko was murdered and she died from asphyxiation.

A jet skier found her body Monday afternoon.

That jet skier was the first to call 911.

"I’m a boater on the Catawba River just north of the I-85 bridge.
There’s a car that’s run off an embankment and there’s a body laying there. I don’t know if they’re alive or not," the caller said at the time.

Right now, the police don't have much information to work with, but this is now a murder investigation.

And police are working around the clock to catch a murderer.
