
Top StoriesMonroe Woman Shot and Killed; Two Charged with MurderPolice are investigating a bizarre shooting in Monroe involving two women were injured and a third woman who was fatally shot. The shooting occurred at a home on Oglethorpe Lane on Wednesday afternoon. When officers arrived, they found Linda Maples standing in the driveway. The 26-year-old had been shot. She told police officers that two other women inside the home had been shot. Police found 23-year-old Jennifer McCord in the garage. Maples and McCord were taken to Carolinas Medical Center-Union and later transported to CMC in Charlotte. Officers found McCord's mother, Debbie Gibson, inside one of the bedrooms. Gibson was pronounced dead at the scene. Monroe police say the three were planning to commit suicide with a pistol. After firing the gun in the backyard, the women decided to shoot each other instead. According to police, they had been called to the house several times in the past in reference to domestic situations involving Gibson and her husband. Police said there was also an ongoing investigation involving the three women for fraudulent prescriptions. Maples and McCord will be charged with murder.
