What's Going Around?

It is December, which a lot of folks are buying Christmas trees and decorations. Surprisingly enough, real and artificial trees can cause some health concerns.

Our resident doctor, Dr. Dave Mendlesohn explains.

"There have been some studies that have shown just having one Christmas tree in your home can increase the amount of mold in your home and for people with mold allergies that can bring on some symptoms."

Dr. Dave suggests if you want to buy a real tree and you know you have mold allergies, stay on your medication through the New Year.

When it comes to artificial trees, he says those can be dangerous too because they can be made with lead.

In order to protect your children from lead poisoning make sure they don't put the tree branches in their mouths.

Christmas lights can also contain lead.

It should say on the boxes if lead is used on the tree or lights.
