HealthalertThursday's Health HeadlinesBusting a Popular Pregnancy MythMany pregnant women have believed they need to stay away from allergy medicines. Here in Charlotte, that's no easy task. WBTV talked to local mom-to-be Sarah Smith today. At four months pregnant, Smith suffered through allergy season, sniffling, sneezing and dealing with headaches. She thought that was the safest thing to do for her and her baby. "they alwasy tell you that the first trimester you need to be careful about taking any kind of extra medications and they recommend mostly taking tylenol so i had assumed that there was really not a lot i could do," Smith said. She's right... you should be careful. But one doctor at Presbyterian Hospital told us the medicines aren't dangerous at all. "I can't think of the any of the over the counter ones that are treating those specific systems even in the first trimester," said Dr. Todd Kopchzyski and OBGYN at Presbyterian Hospital in Matthews. Charlotte is usually in the top 10 worst U-S cities for allergies, but this year, it fell to 23rd. |
