The American Heart Association, recommending children undergo a heart exam before being prescribed ADHD drugs like ritalin. The drugs treat hyperactivity and doctors say they can increase blood pressure and heart rates. It's also believed the drugs could have a negative impact on kids who have pre-existing heart conditions, making them more vulnerable to heart attacks and other heart problems. Women's life expectancy declined significantly in 180 US counties, especially the deep south and Appalachia. In the counties, the average age of death for women fell one-point-three years between 1993 and 1999. In another 780 counties, it fell by half a year. The average life expectancy for women is currently 79-and-a-half years old. The chain is pulling plastic bottles that contain bisphenol-A or BPA off the shelves. That's in response to a study that linked the chemical to changes in behavior, early puberty and possible pre-cancerous tumors. |
