CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV)- Unemployment numbers in the Charlotte area tell a tough story.

There are thousands of people right here in our area looking for work.

There is some help today in the form of a job fair.  Dozens of companies will be searching for potential employees.

The job fair is sponsored by a company called Employment Guide.  The company is doing 50 of these job fairs in cities across the country.

But Charlotte is the only place so far that this group has extended the job fair to a second day  because of such overwhelming response from the companies participating.

It will continue Thursday and it might pay off to attend both since different companies will be represented at each.

Today - The Charlotte Fire Department, Time Warner Cable, Clearwire, Debbie's Staffing, and Yellowpages.com are just some of the companies who plan to be here taking resumes and having one-on-one time with potential employees.

We're told the participating employers are trying to fill hourly positions ranging from entry level to management and they represent industries from health care and customer service to insurance, skilled trades, and transportation.

The job fair starts at 9:30 a.m. at the Hyatt Place Hotel on Forest Pointe Boulevard.  The other job fair is Thursday from 9a.m. - 1p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn near Northlake Mall.

WBTV's Kristen Miranda has more in a live report that aired on WBTV News This Morning.
