United Airlines pilot, 2 others charged with pot smuggling at airport

SHELBY, NC (WBTV) - Three men from California, including a United Airlines pilot, have been charged in Cleveland County with trafficking marijuana, according to The Shelby Star newspaper.

Andrea Edward Vander, 31, and James Harold Hathaway, 45, are charged with trafficking in marijuana. 

Brook Davis Rogers, 33, is also charged with conspiring to traffic in marijuana. 

The Shelby Star reports that Vander and Hathaway used a 1978 Aerostar plan to transport more than 170 pounds of marijuana to the airport in Shelby.

Hathaway is a pilot for United Airlines, the newspaper reports.

All three were arrested on Aug. 6 on College Avenue at the airport in Shelby.

The three men are being held on a $5 million bond at the Cleveland County Detention Center.
