CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - A 16-year-old girl is charged with stabbing and killing an 18-year old woman in west Charlotte, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said.

Tyesha Roberts, 16, is accused of stabbing La'Queda Hall, during a fight. Hall was the mother of a three-month-old girl named Zae'anna.

"How [could] someone just do something like that to a human being?" said Hall's cousin Kizzy Pickering, "She was only 18."

Hall was stabbed multiple times inside a home on Pennsylvania Avenue, police said. Witnesses told police Hall went to the home and got into an argument with Roberts over a man the two mutually knew.

During the altercation, Hall was stabbed multiple times, police said. "There was so much blood coming down her shirt, and her last words were 'Kelly take care of my baby,' Hall's cousin, Kelly Hudson told WBTV.

Hudson called 911 to report that she was taking Hall to the hospital.

"I said 'Queda, just get in, I'm going to get you there, I'm going to get you there', and I just heard her say 'Oh, Kelly, I'm okay, I'm okay' and that was all I heard, and then she didn't say anymore," said Hudson.

Hall died at Presbyterian Hospital sometime after 12:43 a.m.

Witnesses identified Roberts as the suspect and detectives went to a relative's home where they thought she might be.  When Roberts arrived, she turned herself into police.

Police initially said Roberts had a child with Hall's daughter's father. The family insisted the 16-year-old never had a baby with anyone. Police later retracted that statement and said a spokesperson would issue an apology to the Roberts family.

It's a mistake that greatly upset the Roberts family, relatives said. They added Roberts did not have any kind of romantic relationship with the father of Hall's baby.

CMPD Homicide Captain Rod Golding is said to be issuing an apology to the Roberts family. It does not change the fact that investigators believe Roberts is still the prime suspect.

Roberts' family expressed condolences to the Hall family, and said both families were grieving.  The Roberts family also said it's important to wait until all the facts about the case come out.

Roberts was being held at the Mecklenburg County Jail.

Neither Hall nor Roberts are enrolled in Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools, a district spokesperson said.
