Prostitution bust leads to charges for 9 women

GASTONIA, NC (WBTV) - Police have charged nine women on prostitution-related charges during a prostitution sting which happened in Gastonia this week.

The Gastonia Police Department's Street Crimes Unit made the arrests on Wednesday, May 26. 

The police department conducted the sting operation because officers said they had recently seen a recent spike in prostitution activity throughout the city including Airline and Gaston Avenues.

All nine of the women live in Gastonia:

  • Kelly Kristine Philbeck, 41, West Airline Avenue.
  • Cynthia Williams Moore, 42, Rankin Avenue
  • Shirley Tametha Nixon, 39, Rankin Road
  • Kelly Deanne Walters (Murray), 35, Ballard Drive
  • Shonda Lucinda Hagans, 27, Ballard Drive
  • Stephanie Vernon, 34, Rankin Avenue
  • Amy Lee Taylor, 39, West Airline Avenue
  • Kimberly Dawn Butler, 26, Jay Avenue
  • Rose Ann Martin, 24, Farewell Drive

Each of the women are charged with prostitution.  Philbeck and Walters face an additional charge of loitering.  Hagans faces an additional charge of paraphernalia.
