CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Police are investigating a road rage incident which resulted in a shooting in south Charlotte Sunday afternoon.

According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, there was an argument between two parties around 4:12 p.m. at 4136 Craig Avenue.

Police said the victim, 27-year-old Brandon Spears of Harrisburg, approached an SUV full of people and confronted them.

Someone in the SUV allegedly fired a gun at Spears' 2001 Buick LeSabre damaging his windshield.  Spears was hurt, but it is unclear if he was injured by bird shot or shattered glass.

Spears was able to drive to the 8100 block of Fairview Road where police met him.  He told cops the suspect fired at him with a rifle or long gun.

Spears suffered a non-life-threatening wound to the tricep area of his arm and was treated at Carolinas Medical Center.

Someone who witnessed the shooting, called the CMPD and followed the SUV to a neighborhood on Willowbrae Road.

Police arrived and questioned each of the occupants who were in the SUV.

As of Monday afternoon, no one has been arrested, but detectives have identified a 22-year-old who was in possession of the gun when shooting occurred.

Police also said this was not a random act of violence because the victim and the suspect knew each other.
