CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) – Carolina Breast Friends announces its "Project Pink House" is a reality. The non-profit breast cancer support group started by Kristy Adams Ebel in 2003 has purchased the Dunaway house on Morehead.
Chris Ebel's first wife's dream was to have a place of laughter, hope and healing for Charlotte women fighting breast cancer. "She wanted everybody to know life is grand, life is good, no matter what I'm going through."
Kristy fought off cancer and won, twice. In those three years of beating back what she called H.I. or "hooter infiltration" - she mentored other women.
Pam Phipps is Carolina Breast Friends volunteer president, she says Kristy's energy "Was like a fireball, she was electric." Phipps met Kristy during her own breast cancer fight, and promised, along with dozens of other women to make the pink house dream a reality.
Phipps says she feels Kristy's spirit in the home they've purchased to become the new "pink house."
Each room will guide a woman through key steps on her cancer journey - research, fitness, nutrition, wellness, self-image, and counseling.
A sort of one-stop-shop they hope will be the first of many "pink houses" all over the country. Chris Ebel says, "It almost brings a tear to my eye, to know we are here now, we have it. Now we just need to get the word out to make this house come alive."
Renovation plans are being finalized and work should be completed in 6-9 months.
