CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - A man was charged with drunk driving after a three-vehicle crash in uptown Charlotte early Friday morning.
The crash happened at Trade and Tryon Streets around 2:30 a.m.
Two people were injured in the accident and taken to the hospital.
Duane Johnson of Philadelphia was given a sobriety test at the scene and he was later charged with driving while impaired.
At the time of the accident, the streets were busy with pedestrians and drivers who were leaving CIAA Tournament events at Time Warner Cable Arena.
Not far away, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's HITS Unit conducted a DWI checkpoint in the 4400 block of South Boulevard from 11 p.m. Thursday until 3 a.m. Friday. The checkpoint netted 65 charges and 18 arrests.
Fourteen drivers were charged with DWI, 10 were cited for driving with a revoked license and 17 drivers did not have a license. In addition, 5 people were charged with drug possession and 3 were cited for having an open container of alcohol.
A dozen people were cited for various offenses including expired tags, no insurance and child seat violations. One person was cited for carrying a concealed weapon and another person was charged for resisting an officer.
