IREDELL COUNTY, NC (WBTV) - A Harmony man is accused of strangling his girlfriend on Valentine's Day while holding her under a running water faucet.

The alleged incident occurred Sunday at 3:30 a.m. at Roey Lee Parsons Jr.'s home on Piney Grove Road.

When deputies with the Iredell County Sheriff's Department arrived, they found Parsons' girlfriend with bruises to her face and neck.  She told deputies that Parsons had punched her in the face, cut off her airway and forced her head under water.  She also told deputies that Parsons said he was going to kill her.

The sheriff's office says other people were in the home at the time of the incident.  Due to a medical condition, the girlfriend was unable to speak louder than a whisper so no one could hear her cries for help.

Witnesses told sheriff's deputies once they heard what appeared to be a struggle, they rushed to the location where the girlfriend was and attempted to stop Parsons.

Before deputies arrived at the home, Parsons ran into the woods.

The girlfriend was taken to the hospital for treatment and released.

Later in the day, sheriff's deputies found Parsons at his home and charged him with felony assault by strangulation, assault inflicting serious injury, communicating threats, and first-degree kidnapping.

He is being held in the Iredell County Jail under $75,000 secured bond.
