
CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - A bicyclist who was struck by a car in east Charlotte Monday afternoon has died as a result of his injuries.
According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, 65-year-old Robert Lee Baxter was attempting to cross Independence Boulevard on his bicycle when he was struck by a car.
The accident happened at 2:50 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of Independence Boulevard near Briar Creek Road.
Santos Molina was driving a Chevrolet Malibu in the center lane when he struck Baxter's bike with the front left corner of the vehicle.
Baxter was thrown up onto the hood and his head struck the windshield. He was taken to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte and died around 5 p.m.
The CMPD HITS Accident Reconstruction Unit is investigating the accident.
