CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - The 911 tapes from a north Charlotte murder are now being released.  Police say Yumeka Caldwell's ex-boyfriend shot her, before killing himself.  This case was high-profile because she called for help and police responded, but when they left he broke in and she wound up dead.

The calls are early morning from July 10th, 2009.  They come from 7129 Barrington Drive in the Timber Ridge Apartments.  That's Caldwell's grandmother's apartment.

First call is a hang-up.  A CMPD 911 operator calls back.  Yumeka Caldwell picks up.  The following is a transcript.

"(911 Operator) Ma'm, this is Charlotte police. You called us and hung up. What's going on? (Caldwell) My baby's father is making threats. And he's about to come down here with a gun. (911 Operator) What is his name? (Caldwell) Antonio Phifer."

Antonio Phifer was Caldwell's ex.

Police tell Caldwell they'll send someone to where she is.  Once they arrive, Caldwell calls back.  Again, the following is a transcript.

"(911 Operator) We're showing that the officers are there already, Ma'm. (Caldwell) Okay. (911 Operator) Okay? (Caldwell) Okay. (911 Operator) Okay. Go out and talk with them (Caldwell) Okay. (911 Operator) Thank you."

Officers say they search the area, then follow a car Caldwell points out her ex-boyfriend was known to travel in.

Police leave the apartments.

Caldwell then calls a third time... at first her voice remains calm.

"(Caldwell) He just kicked my grandmother's door in. (911 Operator) Ma'm? (Caldwell) He just kicked my grandmother's door in. (911 Operator) Okay, Ma'm. You're going to have to tell me where we need to go.... (Caldwell) Move! Leave me... leave me alone!"

Police rush back to her apartment.

They find both Caldwell and Phifer dead... she had told them he was coming with a gun to kill her, and that's exactly what it seems happened.

Police investigated and determined they did nothing wrong.
