CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Heavy rains last week brought flash flooding to the Carolinas.
The rain also soaked the ground and high winds toppled trees into power lines, cars and homes.
Now the ground remains saturated and many trees are still in danger of falling across Charlotte.
Crews were out Friday in Plaza Midwood taking down a big red oak.
Earlier this week, the couple who lives here noticed the tree leaning and the roots were starting to pull out of the ground.
A tree expert said it would fall within days.
That expert is the homeowner himself.
He happens to be the arborist for the city of Gastonia.
Joe Castevens knew what to look for, but most of us don't.
Here are the signs that could mean you have a problem.
First look for dead limbs on the tree.
Another sign is a large rotten area on the trunk.
Finally if you see mushrooms growing around the base you may have a tree in danger.
One more thing to remember is if you know a tree on your property is in danger of falling, and you don't take care of it your insurance may not cover you if it falls.
