
DINWIDDIE, VA (WWBT/AP) - Pop star Miley Cyrus' tour bus overturned in Virginia, killing one person, authorities said Friday.
Cyrus, 16, was not on board the bus at the time of the crash which happened on Interstate 85. There were 15 passengers on the bus. Reports indicate that the driver of the bus, who was from Texas, was killed.
One other person with minor injuries was taken to Southside Regional Hospital in Petersburg.
Sgt. Thomas Molnar of the Virginia State Police says the bus overturned around 8:15 a.m. Friday on Interstate 85 in Dinwiddie, about 40 miles south of Richmond.
Authorities said that the bus was traveling in the southbound lanes of I-85 when it ran off the left side of the road and overturned. The bus came to rest on its right side and riders on the bus were able to exit the vehicle through the front windshield, Virginia state police said in a press release.
Authorities said that the people riding on the bus are part of Cyrus' production crew.
The bus belongs to Roberts Brothers Coach Co. and was hired for the Miley Cyrus tour.
Those riding on the bus are part of her production crew. It was one of four buses traveling south on I-85 to Greensboro, N.C. According Cyrus' website, the tour is scheduled to perform in Greensboro, N.C., on Sunday.
Miley Cyrus is the daughter of country star Billy Ray Cyrus, who also appears on the family friendly sitcom "Hannah Montana."
