Crane removal causing street closures in center city Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - A large crane is scheduled to be moved in Center City Charlotte on Friday and the street closures could affect your travel plans this weekend.

South Church Street and South Tryon Street will close Friday at 9 a.m. between West First and West Stonewall for removal of the last tower crane at the Wachovia Office Tower Complex.

According to the Charlotte Department of Transportation, it will take three days to remove the crane.

Detours for South Church Street and South Tryon Street are listed below:

• South Church Street - Traffic will be detoured using West Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, South Mint Street, and West Stonewall Street (shown in blue). Through traffic on Church Street to westbound John Belk Freeway (I-277) is advised to use Third Street and South Caldwell Street as an alternate route (shown in green).
• South Tryon Street - Southbound traffic will be detoured using the same detour for South Church Street: West Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, South Mint Street, and West Stonewall Street (shown in blue). Traffic wishing to avoid potential congestion along this detour can use Third Street, South Caldwell Street and East Stonewall Street as an alternate route (shown in green).
• Northbound traffic will be detoured using East Stonewall Street, South College Street, and West Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard (shown in purple). Traffic wishing to avoid potential congestion at the South Tryon Street/Stonewall Street intersection can detour directly to South College Street at the South College Street connector (shown in magenta).
