CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Throughout our area, thousands of people went to the movies Thursday night for the midnight premiere of 'New Moon.'

New Moon is based on the second book in the Twilight series, an ultrapopular series based around a girl who moves to a new town and falls in love with a high school student who is a vampire.  Oh, and she's also got another guy who's a werewolf in love with her.

If you need further details, just ask any pre-teen, teen, or twentysomething daughter.  And some women in their 30s and 40s, too.  And the occasional guy they've forced to get into the series.

Regal Stonecrest on Rea Rd. in South Charlotte was showing the midnight screening of New Moon on 18 screens!  And we're told most if not all were sold out.

Thousands packed into the theater while WBTV was there Thursday night, many of them wearing Twilight-related shirts and other items.  Some wore "Team Edward" shirts (he's the vampire).  Others wore "Team Jacob" shirts (the werewolf!).

There was even a stand where you could get your face made pale like a vampire.
