Mecklenburg County honors Vietnam veterans

Posted: Updated:

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - A Veterans Day ceremony was held at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial at Charlotte's Thompson Park Wednesday morning.

The ceremony marked the 20th anniversary and re-dedication of the Mecklenburg County Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

In addition to the program and traditional Laying of the Wreath ceremony, organizers launched a new web site that will provide information about activities at the park, local veterans' events and educational programs about the Vietnam War.

In the future, the web site will honor the 105 servicemen whose names are listed on the memorial with photographs and biographical information.

"We created this web site because we want more Charlotte residents and visitors to know about the memorial and hope they will take the opportunity to experience this very special and peaceful place," said Jim Cardo, Chairman of the Mecklenburg County Vietnam Veterans Memorial Committee. "The web site also gives us an additional way to honor those whose names are on the memorial wall and to ensure the Vietnam experience is not forgotten."
