CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - The Charlotte - Mecklenburg school (CMS) board makes a crucial vote this week. They will decide if hundreds of Myers Park High school International Baccalaureate students should transfer to East Mecklenburg High school.
East Meck will lose hundreds of its students next school year. They will attend a new high school that will open next school year.
Myers Park HS students are upset at the thought their school may be broken up. They held a rally Monday afternoon to let school board members know how they feel.
"It's going to cripple the program at Myers Park," Myers Park IB student Priyang Shah said. "And it's really going to hurt the school." CMS school board member Ken Gjertsen is prepared to shuffle Myers Park students to East Meck. He believes it's the right thing to do and hopes Myers Park students are not trying to keep their school intact for the wrong reasons. "The undercurrent of what they are saying is IB is good enough for me, if it's at Myers Park," Gjertsen told WBTV. "It's not good enough if it's at Harding or East Meck."
The school board is scheduled to vote Tuesday.
