Explosive Device Discovered at a Boone Wal-Mart

Authorities in Boone blew up what appeared to be a bomb at a Wal-mart this weekend.

An employee found a bomb at the front entrance of the store on Sunday around 5:40 a.m.

The Boone Police and Fire Department said the device was potentially dangerous and evacuated the parking lot for most of the morning.

The Wilkes County Critical Response Group bomb unit detonated the device in the parking lot.

Authorities are still trying to figure out who put it there.

This isn't the first time someone has tried to blow up a North Carolina Wal-Mart.  Last October, five people were injured in an explosion at a Wal-Mart in Smyra, which is west of Asheville.  Surveillance pictures were released of the suspect in that incident but they have not been caught.
