MORGANTON, NC (WBTV) - There are no excuses for the crimes committed by the inmates at the Foothills Correctional Institution. They don't make any.
The felons housed in the prison are murderers, rapists and child molesters. But they ask for the public to see, they are also people.
52 inmates at the prison donated a weeks pay to the Haiti earthquake relief efforts. Their weeks pay averages around $5.
The men collected around $500 total. They hope the money will feed starving children or buy water for a thirsty family. The gesture is genuine. The prisoners didn't get any reward for donating, other than the feeling they say it gives them to help someone.
