CHARLOTTE (WBTV) - A group of south Charlotte women are working hard this week gearing up for a breast cancer awareness fundraising event this Saturday at Quail Hollow Club.
"Oysters on the Lawn" will raise money to build "Project Pink House", which as two survivors explained to Anchor Molly Grantham, is something which would help all Charlotte-area women going through a breast cancer battle.
"I was diagnosed and found a lump under my arm so it was lymph node involvement," said Pamela Darnell.
Pam Phipps was also diagnosed around the same time.
"Mine was caught very early," says Phipps. "I was very blessed by that fact. It was the speck of a pin. Size and speck of a pin."
Both women are five year survivors. Both are also working to make the dream of Kristy Adams-Ebel come true -- something called "Project Pink House".
Before Kristy lost her battle to breast cancer two years ago, she set up a foundation called "Carolina Breast Friends."
Saturday is the foundation's biggest fundraiser yet. It will solely benefit the "Project Pink House" dream.
What is Project Pink House. Both women will excitedly tell you.
"We're hoping to have a house in Charlotte that all these ladies can go to that their yoga classes, their exercise classes, a library they can go to to do research and different things like that," says Darnell. "I mean, when I was diagnosed, I had to go to ten different places. This would make it so much easier for those who are already wondering where to turn next."
Phipps, who is President of Carolina Breast Friends, says they're still investigating site locations. She's hopeful to have "Project Pink House" open within the next two years.
