Hometown: Kristen's childhood pictures often show her bundled up in a snowsuit, towered over by a three foot pile of snow. She was born in Oswego, NY which lies along Lake Ontario. It was a great small town in which to grow up, but her family would only stay there until she was 10. Then they moved to Buffalo, NY, where some of the nicest people in the world live.
Education: A proud graduate of the State University of New York, College at Fredonia, Kristen studied Video Production with a minor in Spanish. She's still not sure how she made it though those Spanish poetry classes (they were tough!) but she graduated with honors.
Career: Charlotte is Kristen's first adventure living outside New York State. She started her career working in a newsroom in Buffalo before she graduated college. She's been an anchor/reporter at WIVT in Binghamton, NY and an anchor/reporter at WHAM in Rochester, NY. Now she's here with us, happy to be working at WBTV. Kristen anchors WBTV News Saturday and Sunday Mornings, a mix of news, live interviews on current affairs/events, and a little fun. She's also WBTV's Consumer Reporter. Each day she's On Your Side with ways to make you a more savvy consumer.
Favorite Stories: As a consumer reporter, Kristen really enjoys finding ways for people to save money - whether it's learning, along with you, how to make the most of your investments, or simply saving a buck or two at the grocery store.
Honors: In 2010, Kristen received the North Carolina Associate Press Award, Division One, for the best Consumer Report of 2009. Kristen has also been honored by the New York State Associate Press and the Syracuse Press Club for her coverage of breaking news. In 2005 she was chosen for a Rotary International Group Study Exchange to Sweden. It was an adventure to spend five weeks in Sweden studying how television news, radio news, and newspapers operate. It was a life and career changing experience. Kristen has been honored to sit on several boards of directors and currently works with Autism Services of Mecklenburg County.
Family: Kristen and her husband remind their parents every day that they can escape the snow to visit any time! Fortunately, they have family living only a couple of hours away in South Carolina. For now they live with their ferocious dogs Stella and Oliver in South Charlotte.
Favorite Food: Just one favorite? Impossible! Trying a new restaurant is one of Kristen's favorite things to do. Someday she'd like to go to pastry school and open her own bakery.
Hobbies: Kristen loves to travel, both in the United States and abroad. Italy and Spain top the long list of places she hasn't seen yet but can't wait to visit. She's also a movie buff, and can't pass up a good culinary or gossip magazine.
