CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Al Jefferson scored 26 points and Kemba Walker added 24 as the Charlotte Bobcats won their seventh straight game at home, defeating the Denver Nuggets 105-98 Monday night. Jefferson made 10 of his first 14 field-goal attempts and also had a game-high 12 rebounds. Walker added seven assists for the Bobcats.
ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) - Karl Cochran scored 23 points, and Wofford beat Western Carolina 56-53 Monday night to capture the Southern Conference championship and a spot in the NCAA tournament. Cochran, the tournament's Most Outstanding Player, was 8 of 16 from the field and had five 3-pointers.
ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) - Alex Black scored 22 points, and Chattanooga beat Davidson 71-45 Monday to win the Southern Conference championship and clinch a berth in the NCAA tournament. Taylor Hall, the tournament's Most Outstanding Player, added 12 points and seven rebounds.
BOONE, N.C. (AP) - Jason Capel has been let go after four seasons at Appalachian State. Athletic director Charlie Cobb said Monday that the school will not renew his contract. Capel is in the final year of a four-year deal that expires at the end of March.
