The Panthers lost four offensive linemen from last year's roster to retirement, including longtime left tackle Jordan Gross.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Tony Stewart will not race Saturday night at Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee, the third Sprint Cup race he's skipped since his car struck and killed Kevin Ward Jr. during a sprint car race. Stewart's decision was announced Wednesday and Jeff Burton will once again replace him in the No. 14 Chevrolet.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) - American John Isner made short work of his third-round match Wednesday in the Winston-Salem Open, beating Kazakhstan's Mikhail Kukushkin 6-1, 7-6 (7-3). Isner served 17 aces and needed just 68 minutes to oust Kukushkin in the final tuneup for next week's U.S. Open.

CARY, N.C. (AP) - Megan Rapinoe scored just three minutes into the game, and the United States got three goals in the second half to beat Switzerland 4-1 Wednesday night. Carli Lloyd made a penalty kick early in the second half, Christen Press scored in the 77th minute and Abby Wambach got her 168th career score in the 87th.
