CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Wednesday marks the month anniversary of a very violent shooting.
Robbie and Crystal Jordan were walking out of the DMV in Monroe on November 1st, when a man emerged from the shadows and shot them both at point blank range. Crystal owns the license plate agency, Robbie was there to help her close up shop.
The man wanted the bag of money they were taking to deposit.
In an exclusive interview Tuesday, Robbie sat down with us after coming from the hospital to visit his wife. He talked about what really happened that night, how much he appreciates the community's support (see below for information on a fundraiser set for December 4th) and Crystal's strength. He says she remains in the hospital's trauma unit.
"I love her," he said. "I'm ready for her to come home."
Robbie says Crystal was shot four times. Twice in the chest, once in the hand and once in her ear.
"They had to take one of her lungs out," he said. "They had to sew her intestines up and put pins in one of her hands and then also fix her ear."
He says she's now able to talk and is off the ventilator, breathing on her own. She remains in Carolina's Medical Center's trauma unit. When she's released from the hospital – which her husband hopes is by Christmas – she will have to learn to walk again.
Police have charged Melvin Luckey and Otis Howie Junior with the crime. Both have previous rap sheets in Mecklenburg County. Robbie says one of them was waiting for the Jordans when they left. The other was waiting in a getaway car.
"He said, ‘Give me the bag," said Jordan, "and then he started shooting. He shot Crystal first. She was holding the bag. I was trying to get him away from her and then he turned on me."
Robbie Jordan was shot twice. Once below the ear and once in the shoulder.
Monroe Police also charged Freda Lashon Brown. Officers say she's a former DMV employee who had a relationship with Luckey.
