Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers thought they were heading to a routine accident, but that quickly turned into a missing person case.
State Troopers investigating the accident said emergency crews got a call around 4am from passersby about a tan colored Ford Explorer which flipped from the off ramp from I-485 to I-85, into the onramp of I-485 to I-85 southbound in the Mallard Creek area.
Cars coming in the opposite direction had to drive around the car as it laid on it's roof.
The body of the truck was all but shattered, and officials said the driver may be badly injured, however, he left, and was last seen walking up the freeway.
Troopers checked out the area, shopping centers, anywhere the driver may have gone, but to no avail.
The truck was towed away, and the freeway onramp opened back up. The driver is still missing.
