DENVER, NC (WBTV) - Authorities say a statistical argument about sports led to one man killing another outside of a Denver restaurant early Sunday morning.

The shooting happened just after 2 a.m. at the Midtown Sundries on Highway 73.

When Lincoln County Sheriff's deputies arrived on the scene, they found Richard Miles, 21, lying in the parking lot suffering from a gunshot wound.

Miles was transported to the hospital where he later died.

According to the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, the shooting stemmed from an argument concerning sports statistics.

The suspect, Jason Eastridge, of Stanley, was seen leaving the scene in a white-colored SUV.

He was later taken into custody and booked into the Lincoln County Detention Center.
