2nd bicyclist dies in wreck in week period

Lenoir, NC -

LENOIR, NC (WBTV) - A teenager who was riding a bike was killed in Lenoir Tuesday evening -- making the wreck the second fatal bicycling wreck in the area during the last 7 days.

According to the Lenoir Police Department, Jeffrey Norman Lewis was turning onto Wakefield Drive from Peak Place when he was struck by a Chevrolet Colorado pick-up truck.

The 16-year-old was transported to Caldwell Memorial Hospital and died a short time later.

The driver of the truck, Thomas Joseph Rutledge, was not injured in the accident.

According to police, no charges have been filed against Rutledge but police say the investigation is ongoing.
