CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - WBTV On Your Side helping you lose weight and eat healthier in 2010.  Six weeks on the Mayo Clinic Diet and together Tyler and Amy Ford have lost more than 30 pounds.

Exercise is one of the five key habits you ADD when you begin the new Mayo Clinic Diet.  It's called the "lose it" phase.  Eat breakfast.  Eat as many fruits and vegetables as you want.  Eat whole grains.  Eat healthy fats like olive oil and nuts.  Get moving with "some" daily exercise.

In that same first two weeks, dump these 5 key bad habits:  No TV while eating.  No sugar, except what's naturally in fruit.  No snacks except fruits and veggies.  Eat moderate amounts of lean meat.  No eating in restaurants UNLESS it fits the plan.

Amy Ford says, "I was walking 30 minutes, but I wasn't even breaking a sweat".  Amy knew to reach her goals, she'd need to take her exercise up a notch.

"Move MORE!" is one of the five BONUS habits the Mayo Clinic diet recommends.

Personal trainer and friend Buck Buhler offered to help, "I'm in this business to help people" he says.  Buck put Amy on a 5:40AM, 3-days a week high-intensity workout plan.  He calls it "boot camp."  But, there's no yelling.  "I'm an encourager at heart," he says.  There IS a lot of grimacing, and sweating.  Buck pushes his students to their limits.

Amy's working hard at exercising AND eating healthier.  She's dropped a whole jean size.

It's the kind of progress Buck says makes his job so rewarding, "Fitness success, that's what we say we're dedicated to - people's fitness success."

Buck says this high intensity 30-40 minute workout actually helps you burn fat even at rest during the day, by actually elevating your metabolism.

You can read Buck Buhler's blog, learn more about the "Body by Buck" Boot Camp, or sign up for a "One Week for One Buck" by clicking here.

Please email me if you have questions about the diet.  If you need inspiration, Amy is writing a blog about her experience.  Her latest entry is about ignoring the scale when you know you're taking steps in the right direction.  Check it out, here.
