KANNAPOLIS, NC (WBTV) - Two residents from a nursing home in Kannapolis were killed when a train struck both of them Friday evening.

The crash happened near the intersection of East 18th Street and North Main Street around 6 p.m.

A spokesperson for AMTRAK said the train had left Charlotte and was on its way to Raleigh when the accident occurred.

There were 100 passengers on the train at the time, but none of the passengers were injured.

Two hours after the accident occurred, the train continued on its way to Raleigh.

Kannapolis Police have not released the names of the two victims who were both residents of Britthaven.

April Roberts, who is the Administrator at the facility, said, "Residents and staff of our Rest Home are deeply saddened by the tragic accident. We extend our heartfelt sympathies to the families as a result of this accident. Facility counseling support will be available for our Residents, families and staff as we deal with this terrible event. Rest Homes strive to support a home like environment and the rights of competent residents to leave the facility at will. Our facility has not experienced a loss of life in an outside accident. We will continue to work with community resources for the safety of all our residents."
