Kings Mountain Mayor Rick MurphreyKINGS MOUNTAIN, NC - A major trucking operation is relocating to Kings Mountain and will create 400 new jobs.
Bell Lines Inc. LLC owner Charles T. Lohr has purchased the former Carolina Western trucking center on Charles Street.
Lohr expects to be up to full production next year with more than 200 trucks transporting airline and commercial freight throughout the South.
"Our area has suffered with high unemployment and we now have the opportunity to reverse a 155 unemployment rate," said Mayor Rick Murphrey.
Kings Mountain resident Cathy Hardin lost her waitressing job earlier this year. She was excited to hear about the new jobs and plans to apply.
"It's really wonderful, it ought to do a lot to boost morale in this little town, " said Hardin.
Kings Mountain could certainly use a boost in Morale.
The population is only 11,000, but with an unemployment rate of 15 percent, the town seemed ripe for a new trucking company.
"[We have] good quality of life, easy access, located right by the interstate," said Kings Mountain Mayor Rick Murphrey.
Louise Lynn couldn't be happier about the news, her son's been out of work for two years.
"He goes everyday and looks for a job," said Lynn.
An additional 30 jobs will be coming to Kings Mountain when QualTech Industries opens later this year.
If you are interested in applying for these jobs, contact the Employment Security Commission located at 404 E. Marion Street, Shelby, NC 28150. The ESC's phone number is 704-480-5414.
