FORT MILL, SC (WBTV) - Some school systems in our area are preparing to give students the H1N1 vaccine.
Gaston county schools will start giving out shots next week and Lancaster County public schools have already sent paperwork out to parents asking them if they want their children to get the H1N1 vaccine.
But what about the Charlotte - Mecklenburg school (CMS) district? Parents have not received any information about when students can get a dose to protect them from the deadly virus.
The district says it is in the process of writing a letter to hand out to parents to inform them about the vaccine. CMS hopes to give students the shot by the beginning of next year.
Mecklenburg county health officials say they are out of the H1N1 vaccine. They are waiting for more.
Meanwhile Lancaster county parents got an e-mail Wednesday informing them the shots were on the way.
"I think that's a good idea." Lancaster county parent Michael Simmons said.
Simmons already signed his first grader up for the vaccine.
"I don't think it will hurt," Simmons told WBTV. "It's just another precaution."
South Carolina officials have been preparing for months to distribute the vaccine to students.
Lancaster county students could get the shot within the next few weeks.
