CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - City officials estimate that more than 20,000 people were in Center City for Race for the Cure Saturday, October 3rd. Fourteen thousand of them were out actually walking or running in memory and in honor of those with breast cancer.
WBTV is proud to be a sponsor of this event. For the first time this year, we were able to set up cameras in a place where you could easily see the sea of people at the start line.
Organizers say the race raised over 1.3-million dollars so far -- they're still counting because fundraising continues until October 31st. (October is knows as breast cancer awareness month.) $1.3 million beats the budgeted amount.
