HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (AP) - Police say a North Carolina middle school teacher has been charged with raping a 15-year-old girl.
The Charlotte Observer reported that 44-year-old Ernest Nichols of Huntersville was in court Friday after he was charged with 27 counts including rape, second-degree sex offense, crimes against nature, indecent liberties with children and kidnapping. He remains in jail on $810,000 bond.
Officials say Nichols worked as a physical education teacher at Ranson Middle School since 2004 and the victim was a family friend, not a student. Police say the attacks happened at Nichols' house over a six-month period starting in 2008.
A member of Nichols' family who answered his phone but refused to give his name told The Associated Press he would not discuss the charges.
