
Rescuers place the overturned canoe in a raft before bringing it ashore.CATAWBA COUNTY, NC (WBTV) - Officials responded to a swift water rescue in Catawba County Tuesday afternoon and saved two people from a canoe in a rushing river.
The 911 center received a call about an overturned canoe in the vicinity of 6100 Greedy Highway near Jacob Fork River around 2:40 p.m.
The incident happened at about 2:15 p.m. when a canoe carrying three people struck a tree and overturned. One of the three in the canoe managed to make it to shore. The other two made it to a small island in the middle of the river.
The Catawba County Urban Search & Rescue team successfully rescued the two people from the small island.
Approximately 20 and 25 emergency personnel assisted in the rescue. Rescuers later managed to bring the canoe to shore.
Everyone who was in the canoe turned out to be OK.
