CHINA GROVE, NC (WBTV) - China Grove Police, with assistance from the US Marshal’s Office, have arrested a man in connection with a shooting that happened during the first week of February.

Aaron Wilkes was charged on Friday morning and taken to jail. When asked about the shooting, Wilkes had no comment for a WBTV reporter.

Wilkes was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill and possession of a firearm by a felon. Bond is $250,000.

The shooting happened in the 600 block of Harry Street just before 10:00 pm on February 3.

On that date, police said they located Derrick Alexander, 34, with a non-life threatening gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital to be treated for his injuries.

Witnesses told officials they saw a dark colored SUV leaving the area after shots were fired.

“The China Grove Police Department appreciates the assistance from surrounding agencies and the United States Marshals Service for bringing closure to this case and arresting this violent criminal," said China Grove Police Chief Andrew Deal in a press release.
